Walking the Lycian Way Itinerary
Our walks are moderate in nature. We have chosen routes that capture the spirit of this area, are a delight to walk along, which contain the best possible views and which offer some of the finest remains of historical interest in the region.
Our aim is to combine your holiday enjoyment with great fun, walking in our small and friendly groups.
Cameras are recommended to capture your holiday adventures along these spectacular routes.
It will be difficult to improve on our itinerary which is as follows:
Day1…6km… Amyntas Tombs and Tuesday market.
We start our itinerary by walking from the hotel, past the theatre built in the early roman period, to the famous and splendid Amyntas tombs. Dating from the 4th Century BC, these impressive tombs are carved into the mountain side above the town. From this fabulous viewpoint we continue through the traditional village houses down to the ever popular Tuesday market.
Free time will allow you to browse through the hundreds of stalls, after which we walk along one of the finest marinas in the Mediterranean and return to our hotel.
Day 2… 7km… Kayakoy to Olu Deniz
This is a stunning walk from the ghost village of Kayakoy to Olu Deniz, the most photographed beach of the world. Once a thriving Ottoman town, Kayakoy dates back to the 15th Century. Abandoned by the Greeks in1923 this old city now resembles a Ghost Town.
Our walk starts along the ancient cobbled streets of Kayakoy which are lined with houses, churches and schools, and will end at the world famous lagoon of Olu Deniz. Here, time permitting,you will be able relax on the beach, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, and white sands. Swimming time will allow you to enjoy the clear turquoise waters. Our transport will return us to our hotel for a relaxing evening and enjoyable meal.
Day 3… 12 km.. Uzumlu to Cadianda
Uzumlu village is set on an upland plateau famous, for wine making, traditional houses and almond trees. From here we walk to the ancient 5th Century Lycian settlement of Cadianda.
A path through the pine forests traces a circular route amongst the ruins of a bath, temple, stadium and theatre which is carved into the slope. The views of Fethiye and the distant sea are truly fabulous. We will then be collected by our minibus for return the return journey to our hotel and evening meal.
Day 4… 12km..Kaya to Fethiye
From the Ghost Town of Kayakoy we walk along the scenic route which winds through villages set in beautiful, tranquil countryside.. Following the ancient pathway through traditional farm land and pine forests our linear walk culminates with spectacular views of Fethiye, and islands of the bay. Our minibus will return us to our marina hotel.
Day 5…14km.. Ovacik to Faralya
Starting with fabulous views of Oludeniz, we follow the Lycian Way upwards and continue towards the famous Butterfly Valley. This walk encompasses some uphill walking, but the views are well worth the moderate effort with Rhodes visible in the distant sea. The meandering pathway provides an ever changing view and walking environment. Our transport will collect us from the end of this linear walk and will stop at the head of Butterfly valley, in order for you to view one of the most spectacular gorges of the region before returning to base.
Day 6…5km.. Karagozler to Sovalye Island, with private boat cruise
A wonderful day of short strolls and relaxation! Our yacht will take us to the pretty island of Sovalye. Here we will walk the length of the island which not only contains interesting historical artefacts, but provides wonderful, panoramic views across the bay of Fethiye and its’ surrounding mountains. We return by yacht to the mainland refreshed, and with time permitting, we will visit the nearby promenade of Calis. A level stroll along the picturesque marina will then return us to our hotel. * AMAZING PRICE JUST £390 p.p. sharing double room OR, £440 for single person in double room.
